Check availability on WhatsAppWhy Alibaug Works for a Group Weekend
Alibaug is the closest proper beach destination to Mumbai, and the ferry makes it feel closer still — twenty minutes from the Gateway of India to Mandwa, then a short drive to the coast. That is the whole appeal: you can leave the city after work on a Friday and be in a pool by dinner, without the four-hour drive that Goa or the Konkan demands.
The trade-off is that Alibaug's popularity has filled it with small properties. Plenty of listings advertise a "private pool" that turns out to be a plunge pool barely big enough for four people, and lawns that are really just a strip of grass. If your group is fifteen or thirty people, that distinction decides whether the weekend works.
Nagaon, where our property sits, is a few kilometres south of Alibaug town. It is quieter than the main beach strip, the sand is noticeably cleaner, and the water sports operators run out of the same stretch during season.

How to Reach Alibaug
- By ferry (fastest) — Gateway of India to Mandwa jetty, roughly twenty minutes. From Mandwa it is a short drive south to Nagaon. Ferries run through the day but are suspended in rough monsoon weather, so check before you plan around them.
- By road via Atal Setu — the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link has cut this route down considerably. Expect roughly two to two and a half hours from South Mumbai in normal traffic.
- From Pune — about four hours via the expressway and Khopoli.
- Getting around — there is no useful public transport between the beaches. Bring your own vehicle or arrange a car locally; autos are available but limited after dark.
Things to Do around Nagaon and Alibaug
- Nagaon Beach — a short walk from the villa. Cleaner and less crowded than Alibaug beach, and the base for most of the local water sports.
- Water sports — parasailing, jet ski and banana boat operate off Nagaon in season, typically October through May.
- Kolaba Fort — a sea fort off Alibaug beach that you can walk out to at low tide. Check the tide timings before you set off.
- Sagargad Fort — a half-day trek with a view over the coastline, best attempted early morning.
- Akshi and Varsoli beaches — quieter stretches within a short drive if Nagaon gets busy on a long weekend.
- Alibaug market — about twenty minutes away for fresh seafood, local produce and the usual beach-town shopping.

Frequently Asked Questions
How far is Alibaug from Mumbai?
Two routes. By road via the Atal Setu and the coastal highway it is roughly a two to two and a half hour drive from South Mumbai. Faster is the ferry from the Gateway of India to Mandwa jetty, about twenty minutes on the water, then a short drive down to Nagaon.
Do your Alibaug villas have private pools?
Yes. Heritage Villa in Nagaon has a 20 by 40 foot private pool with a depth of 5.5 feet, which is considerably larger than the plunge pools most Alibaug villas in this bracket offer. It is exclusive to your group.
What does an Alibaug villa cost per night?
Heritage Villa is priced per person with unlimited buffet meals included, billed to a minimum group size. On weekdays that is ₹35,000 per night for the whole villa (10 adults × ₹3,500). On weekends the minimum rises to 15 adults, so ₹60,000 per night (15 × ₹4,000). Occupancy runs to 40 adults.
Which beach is nearest?
Nagaon Beach is a short walk from Heritage Villa and is known for being one of the cleanest stretches in the area. Akshi, Varsoli and Alibaug beaches are all a short drive away.
Can we host a birthday or a small wedding?
Yes. The lawn garden at Heritage Villa takes 40 to 50 people, which suits birthdays, anniversaries, engagements and intimate weddings. Send us your headcount and date and we will confirm feasibility.
Is Alibaug good in the monsoon?
The coast turns green and the sea is dramatic, but water sports shut down and the beaches are not swimmable. If the pool and the lawn are the point of your trip, October to March is the better window.
Are meals included?
At Heritage Villa, yes — unlimited buffet meals with vegetarian and non-vegetarian options are cooked on site and included in the per-person rate.
